Angry
I want to be angry until I no longer want to be angry.
This, is what I want.
I want to be left to be angry for however long I want.
I do not want to be forced out of this anger.
I do not want appeasements or justifications.
While I’m angry, there is no space for those.
I want to go through this, whatever way feels good to me.
I will tire of being angry.
I know.
But for now, I’m angry.
And I want to be angry until I no longer want to be angry.
Last week, a series of events in my personal life, unleashed anger. This, and three others, are a series of poems fuelled by this anger. The words poured out of me in the space of 12 hours. One after the other, they express my reaction to what made me angry.
Since then, other things out there in the world happened too. The is a lot of anger, and rightly so.
I have come to understand, from my personal experience, that anger has a place in the world and in each one of us. Anger let’s us know when a boundary has been broken. Sometimes we don’t even know we had that boundary, until it became clear through anger. And in doing so, anger helps us get clear about what and who we are willing to accept in our lives.
This time, I also found out that anger can ignite creativity and take us to take action. I created several poems and I took action in speaking up for myself and what I needed.
This is also what is happening in America today. Anger is showing the world through the american lens what people of colour are no longer willing to put up with. It is bringing into the light the white supremacist world we live in. It is making people take action.
Anger has a place in the world and in ourselves. It is time to look it straight in the face and allow it to speak to us. It has important things to say. Don’t avoid it, listen closely and you will see what I mean.
Trust that anger will not stay with you forever, it will not cause you harm if you are with it with presence, awareness and curiosity.
